What kind of expressions can this handle?

Single-variable polynomial terms in x — things like 3x^3 + 5x^2 - 7x + 2, using the power rule and sum rule. It does not yet handle trig, log, exponential functions, or the chain/product/quotient rules.

What is the power rule?

For a term a·xⁿ, the derivative is a·n·xⁿ⁻¹ — multiply the coefficient by the exponent, then reduce the exponent by 1. This tool applies that rule to every term and adds the results (the sum rule).

What happens to a plain number, like +7?

A constant's derivative is always 0, since it doesn't change as x changes — it drops out of the result entirely.
